Dreamrunners is my entry for PocketQuest 2025, now out. It’s a modern fantasy minigame of strange adventures in two worlds.
PocketQuest is DriveThruRPG’s annual game jam, with the challenge to produce a short self-contained game on a given theme. This year’s theme is Dreams and Nightmares. There are loads of creative interpretations of that, now live on the site.
In Dreamrunners, your characters have the talent of lucidity: participating consciously in the world of Dream. They also have Spark — one or more creative callings that they’ve developed — and they find that in Dream these can have great power.
The two worlds are connected, and what happens in Dream can nudge minds in the Real. What change can the characters create?
There are suggestions for types of character group, and the kinds of goals they might pursue. And there are notes on how Dream behaves, to help the GM with planning and description.
The system is a simple d6 dice pool, counting successes. (It’s the same as in previous PocketQuest entry Shoreline, adjusted to fit.)
